Brooklyn Bird Club: presenting birds observed at Naval Cemetery Landscape

May 22 | 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join Brooklyn Bird Club and BGI gardeners for a talk covering birds & insects at the native meadow seen at the Naval Cemetery Landscape.

Leader: Eric Thompson, gardener and naturalist (BGI)

Focus: Explore this native pollinator meadow and memorial landscape. This presentation will focus primarily on migrating birds and the insects that make the Naval Cemetery Landscape their home or stopping ground. This event will be a webinar with a possible in person location to be determined (register for updates). The NCL is fully operated and made open as a public space by Brooklyn Greenway Initiative (BGI)through the generosity of our supporters. Attend this presentation ahead of the Brooklyn Bird Club walk at the NCL on Saturday, May 25 or stop by on your own another time after this introduction to the NCL’s native pollinator habitat and contemplative memorial urban meadow.

The Director of Horticulture will also be there to speak about the plants and horticulture techniques that support these species so you can learn about the NCL and the Greenway and what goes into maintaining their beauty and accessibility for every visitor, especially the many species of birds for which we intentionally cultivate habitat and resources!

NCL is managed by the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative who will give a BBC partner led walk the following weekend on site, May 25. Check the Brooklyn Bird Club meetings page on the BBC website for details.

This event is free and will be in-person at Powerhouse Arts in Gowanus but please make sure to register/get a ticket for each attending member. Originally we thought there may be a zoom remote option but have decided to record a webinar version at a later date. We’ll announce webinar availability on our website, brooklyngreenway.org and our newsletter.
