Stop by Brooklyn Greenway Initiative’s office for our monthly open house on Thursday, June 9th, and find out what’s in store for this spring along the greenway! We are always looking for new volunteers, and we’re also happy to answer questions and meet our neighbors.

Save the Date, June 16th, for New Views 2011: Festa D’Estate!

Our annual summer benefit party, New Views 2011: Festa D’Estate, will be held on Thursday, June 16th, 6:00PM-9:00PM at One Brooklyn Bridge Park overlooking Pier 6, with spectacular views of the harbor and lower Manhattan. Our special guests of honor include NYC DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan.

This year’s party is a family-friendly Italian summer feast (Festa D’Estate) and we will feature a variety of food from some of Brooklyn’s distinctive Italian restaurants, as well as Italian wine and beer. Get your tickets today!

Free Bicycle Rentals for Greenway Members for May 7th Bike Tour!

Bike and Roll NYC is opening their newest bike rental location this Saturday, May 7th, at Brooklyn Bridge Park near Pier 1! For more information about bike rentals, visit the Bike and Roll NYC website.

In celebration of opening day, Bike and Roll NYC has generously offered 10 free bicycles to BGI members who would like to participate in our May 7th bike tour!

If you are interested in reserving a bike, please call BGI’s office at 718.522.0193 from 10:00AM-6:00PM, or email us at info@brooklyngreenway.org. You will need to provide your full name and height when reserving, and when you pick up your bike at Brooklyn Bridge Park at 9:00AM on May 7th, you will need to sign a waiver and provide your credit card for a deposit. Greenway Clean-Ups Continue on Saturday, May 14th

Our monthly clean-ups continue along the Columbia Street and Williamsburg Street sections of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. Please join us on Saturday, May 14th from 10:00AM-12:00PM. Tools and gloves provided, all ages welcome!

Columbia Street: Meet at BGI’s office, 145 Columbia Street between Kane & Degraw.

Williamsburg Street: Meet at the corner of Kent Avenue and Williamsburg Street.

*Weather Update* In case of rain, please call BGI’s office at 718.522.0193 after 8:30AM on Saturday. If the clean-up has been cancelled, there will be an outgoing message to that effect. If there is no message, the clean-up is still on!

Save the Date! 3rd Annual Brooklyn Waterfront Epic Ride Set for July 30th

Join Brooklyn Greenway Initiative (BGI), Transportation Alternatives (TA) Brooklyn Volunteer Committee, National Park Service, Rockaway Waterfront Alliance and Regional Plan Association (RPA) for a 40 mile ride along Brooklyn’s entire waterfront and Jamaica Bay that highlights the potential of a completed Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway combined with a completed Jamaica Bay Greenway.

Following the ride you can go to the beach or make your way back independently via the A train, a Rockaway ferry to Wall Street Pier 11 from Riis Landing (at 3:00PM or 5:00PM) or by riding back on Flatbush Avenue, the most direct route to northern Brooklyn.

Thursday Evening Greenway Workouts Begin May 12th

Need that extra push to start and sustain an exercise program, but still on the fence? Join our upcoming Thursday evening workout (for beginners!) on May 12th from 6:00PM-7:00PM. More info and registration

If you participated in one of our recent Sunday morning sessions, you know that it’s a great workout and also a lot of fun. Group trainer Annette Lang keeps everyone motivated and energized as they stretch on BGI’s deck, walk or jog along the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway to Pier 6, and then work through a circuit of full body exercises.
