What an incredible year it has been at Brooklyn Greenway Initiative! We’re excited to share with you our BGI 2018 Year in Pictures – a “highlights reel” of progress on the Greenway and the many BGI programs and events that would not be possible without partners and friends like you. We’re grateful for you and millions of others who demonstrate the value and impact of our work by your use of the Greenway – whether for family-friendly recreation or to commute to school or work, riding our Epic Ride or running our Half Marathon/5K, taking a Yoga or Meditation class in the Naval Cemetery Landscape, supporting our annual gala, or volunteering to help us keep it all green and clean.

With your help, we’re looking forward to doing even more in 2019!

– Expanding volunteer opportunities for community, youth, and business groups

– Offering more programs at BGI’s Naval Cemetery Landscape at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and connecting more people to this contemplative, memorial space and native pollinator habitat

– Measuring use of the Greenway to inform future enhancements, amenities, and expanded access

– Advocating for completion of the Greenway by 2025 when NYC population is expected to rise above 9 million

And on February 5, 2019 BGI will celebrate its 15th Anniversary! Stay tuned for more information on how you can celebrate with us.

Please, help us do more in 2019! Continue to support our important work by making a generous year-end donation to BGI today!

Brooklyn Greenway Initiative (BGI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to the development, establishment and long-term stewardship of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway – a 26-mile protected and landscaped route for pedestrians and cyclists that, when complete, will connect Brooklyn’s storied and iconic waterfront, parks and open space, commercial and cultural corridors, and new tech and innovation hubs for 2.65 million Brooklyn residents, over 1 million employees in Brooklyn, and 15 million visitors from across the City and around the world.

Founded in 2004, BGI works with community, non-profit, business, and governmental partners to create and fulfill a comprehensive vision for the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, while at the same time building awareness and support among residents and employees who live and work along its route. Since its founding, BGI has channeled more than $218 million in public and private investment toward implementation of the Greenway, leveraged public and private investment of $2.38 million toward the creation of the Naval Cemetery Landscape as a new park-like space adjacent to the Greenway, and conceptualized or supported the development and stewardship of other open spaces and public amenities along the Greenway. Approximately 18 miles of completed Greenway are actively used by tens of thousands of cyclists and pedestrians daily.
