BGI Benefit at Chio’ to Support Hurricane Relief

November 12, 2012 | 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Brooklyn Greenway Initiative has many friends, program partners, and supporters who live and work along Brooklyn’s waterfront — especially in Red Hook, which was among those neighborhoods hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy.

With so many pressing needs for assistance, we have decided to donate the proceeds from our November 12th fall benefit to the newly-formed Brooklyn Recovery Fund, which is a Hurricane Sandy relief fund jointly administered by the Brooklyn Community Foundation, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and Brooklyn Borough President’s Office.

Please join us on Monday, November 12th, 6:00-9:00pm, at the new Chio’ Restaurant in the Columbia Waterfront District, as we come together and raise funds needed to help Brooklyn recover and rebuild after Hurricane Sandy’s devastation. 100% of ticket sales will be donated to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund, so please purchase a ticket at the highest level you can. A check will be presented to Brooklyn Community Foundation at the benefit.

If you are unable to attend on November 12th but would like to make a contribution, please give via BGI’s website. All individual contributions received by BGI between now and November 12th will be donated to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund. If you have questions, please call the BGI office at 718.522.0193 or email Brian at bmccormick@brooklyngreenway.org.

At the November 12th benefit, we are honoring the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office for channeling $1.5 million in NYS DOS funding to the Greenway and allocating $1.5 million in the NYC 2013 capital budget for the Sunset Park Connector section of the Greenway. We are also honoring John Osborn, Esq. of the law firm Osborn for providing invaluable legal services as BGI assumes new roles in project implementation. Come out and show your appreciation for Marty, the whole crew at the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office, and John Osborn, Esq. for their hard work in moving the Greenway forward.

Guests will also receive a briefing on those segments of the Greenway which are now in the implementation pipeline from Ted Wright, NYC DOT Senior Project Manager for the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, as well as a complimentary copy of Building the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, which summarizes the Implementation Plan released in June 2012.

Thank you to our generous event sponsors: Brooklyn Brewery, Brownstoner.com, Chio’, Industry City, The O’Connell Organization, and Waterfront Wines & Spirits.
