Columbia St. Greenway Clean-Up and Global Work Party

On Sunday, October 10th, from 10:00AM-noon, BGI will hold its monthly Columbia Street Greenway Clean-Up, followed by a BBQ on our new garden deck. We’re holding our clean-up on Sunday this month as part of 350.org’s “Global Work Party.” 350.org is an international grassroots campaign that aims to mobilize a global climate movement united by a common call to action. Thousands of events worldwide are planned on 10/10/10 as part of this campaign.

What is 350? 350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Scientists measure carbon dioxide in “parts per million” (ppm), so 350ppm is the number humanity needs to get below as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change. To get there, we need a different kind of PPM -a “people powered movement” – that is made of people like you in every corner of the planet.

Our annual volunteer BBQ – the “party” – will immediately follow the clean-up on BGI’s new garden deck (weather permitting)  at noon.  BGI will provide grillables and drinks. You bring your favorite dish, dessert, appetizer or side for about 6-8 people.

Meet at BGI’s office at 9:45AM for the clean-up. Tools and gloves will be provided. All ages are welcome. Should the clean-up be cancelled due to inclement weather, we will leave a message on our office line (718.522.0193) by 8:30AM the morning of the event. To RSVP for the clean-up and/or BBQ please contact Brian at bmccormick@brooklyngreenway.org
