Save the Date! November 1st Public Meeting for Memorial Landscape at the Naval Hospital Cemetery Site

You are invited to participate in a public meeting and presentation on Monday, November 1st, 5:30PM, to discuss the development of a publicly accessible memorial landscape at the former cemetery site. The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is considering making the cemetery site accessible to the public as an open space along the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. In so doing, its design and programming must be totally sensitive to its prior use as a cemetery and to the associated sentiments within the many stakeholder communities. The site is subject to a deed restriction that precludes development or substantial ground disturbance.

In preparation for this conversation, Brooklyn Greenway Initiative, in collaboration with BNYDC and Regional Plan Association, has retained the design firm Rogers Marvel Architects and its team, including Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects and Local Projects, an innovative media firm, to develop and design a program that meets the site’s requirements. We invite you to see their ideas and offer feedback on the design concept on Monday, November 1st, 2010 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Please RSVP to info@brooklyngreenway.org.
