The CB2 Transportation Committee voted unanimously to endorse NYC DOT’s $8 million plan to build the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway on Flushing Avenue along the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The design presented by engineering consultants Parsons Brinckerhoff calls for the curb to be extended streetward so both the bike and pedestrian paths will be out of the vehicular roadway. The pedestrian path along the Navy Yard fence will be separated from the bikeway by a 5 foot wide tree and planting zone. On the other side of the bikeway, a 3 foot wide planting zone will separate bikes from the roadway. The design must go before the Public Design Commission for approval. DOT seeks a 2014 construction start.
