The Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway remains open as a safe route for solo exercise and critical transportation.
The Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway is an essential avenue for people of all ages and abilities utilizing multiple modes of active transportation. The green corridor from East New York to Greenpoint is ideal for walking, running, and biking while maintaining safe social distance from others and crowded enclosed areas. The Greenway provides safe passage for healthcare and other essential services personnel and vital open space for maintaining mental and physical health.
When using the Greenway for transportation or recreation, please be mindful of other users by keeping a safe distance [runners and cyclists moving at higher speeds need to allow more space] and staying informed on the latest guidelines from the Department of Health. Keep yourself by washing your hands, gear, and bike as soon as you get home.
The Naval Cemetery Landscape will remain closed through May.
Open Hours at the Naval Cemetery Landscape have been suspended through May. While we believe deeply in the restorative power of nature – especially in times like these – we are committed to doing our part to “flatten the curve” and keep employees and visitors safe. We will continue to monitor and heed the advice of public health experts and officials, with the sincere hope that we will be able to welcome visitors back to the Naval Cemetery Landscape in some capacity during late spring florescence. We’ll continue to update this page with further details as they unfold. Be sure to follow @navalcemeterylandscape to visit virtually and as we develop new online programs.
The 2020 Greenway Ride Update
The Greenway Ride presented by Citibike was originally scheduled for May 31st, 2020, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City, BGI needed to postpone the event to a later date. Given current regulations regarding group events, we have adjusted the format and timing of the 2020 Greenway Ride to enable exploration and discovery along Brooklyn’s waterfront while encouraging safe physical distancing along the Greenway. We’re excited to offer this reimagined 2020 Greenway Ride!
