NYC DOT has released a revised interim greenway plan for Flushing Avenue. The original plan, which would have made Flushing one-way along the Navy Yard, was a source of concern for some community and business stakeholders. The revised plan keeps Flushing Avenue two-way for vehicles, deferring the creation of a two-way bikeway west of Washington Avenue during this interim stage.
DOT’s presentation with proposed cross sections is available here. We think it is a good plan that is responsive to residents and businesses, while advancing the greenway plan until the full greenway capital project at the Navy Yard can be implemented. At that time additional space for the greenway can be achieved by moving some of the fences along the Navy Yard perimeter.
