Tree Care and Perennial Planting on West Street with BGI

October 29 | 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join BGI to plant perennials in the new tree pits on West Street!

As the latest installment in BGI’s effort to beautify the new Greenway on West Street, we will be planting perennials in the new tree pits and caring for the trees.

Join BGI and our partners New York Tree Trust and Greenpoint Tree Corps to celebrate the transformation of the streetscape and to help “green” Greenpoint!

We’ll be meeting at West Street and Greenpoint Ave at 10am. We will provide gloves and tools; you should bring a hat, sunscreen, and layers (as it’s fall and the weather could go any which way). Remember to wear comfortable clothes and closed toed shoes. See you then!

Register to save your spot and receive reminders about the event. Walk-ups are also welcome.

This volunteer event is part of our project which entailed planting more than forty street trees along the West Street segment of the Greenway and connecting side streets. BGI worked with the NYC Parks Department to incorporate street tree requests from locals into this project in order to meet specific demands for greening from the Greenpoint community. All of the trees were planted in spring of 2021, and we will be hosting community tree stewardship and engagement events throughout this year. The effort was made possible with generous support from City Parks Foundation and its Newtown Creek Environmental Benefits Fund.
