Brooklyn Greenway Initiative Impact Report 2020 – 2021

Dear Friends,

This month, BGI released our 2020 – 2021 Impact Report, reflecting on the Greenway’s progress within the seismic shifts of the past two years.

As members of our community, you already know some of the highlights:

  • 9 Greenway capital projects completed or currently underway –
  • the Naval Cemetery Landscape continues to create a model for native-species landscaping in small urban spaces –
  • Greenway use in Brooklyn and across the city has skyrocketed –
  • and the #Greenways4NYC movement has grown into the NYC Greenways Coalition, re-invigorating the movement for a citywide greenway network!

Demand has never been greater for what the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway can deliver: connecting a greener, stronger, healthier Brooklyn. Yet the Greenway’s full potential can’t be realized until its 26-mile route is fully connected, protected from vehicular traffic, greened up beyond green paint, and accessible to all communities.

BGI is building a stronger movement to help Brooklyn – and New York City – thrive well into the future. We are so thankful that you’re a part of that.

In partnership,

Terri Carta, Executive Director
