The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) has selected artist Lucy Kalian to implement a design onto a barrier site located along Williamsburg Street West between Kent and Flushing Avenues. DOT is partnering with New York Cares to organize two large volunteer days to assist the artist with design implementation. On Saturday, April 17th (between the hours of 10am and 3pm), volunteers will prime the barriers to prep the site for the artist. The week of April 19th, the artist will work with volunteers to stencil out the design in preparation for painting. On Saturday, April 24th (between the hours of 9am and 4pm), volunteers will assist the artist with painting out the design. DOT is looking for local volunteers with an interest in art and design to assist the artist with stenciling and painting of the barriers the week of April 19th to April 24th, possibly extending a few days into the following week to assist the artist with touch ups and detail work. All interested individuals should contact Emily Colasacco, Manager of the Urban Art Program at by Friday, April 9, 2010.
