On Thursday, June 4, Brooklyn Greenway Initiative held our 2026 Gala for Greenways, bringing together supporters, partners, and friends to celebrate New York City’s growing network of Greenways.

The Gala marked the 10 year anniversary of the Greenway Botanical Garden at the Naval Cemetery Landscape- the venue for the event. The Garden recently earned its accreditation by Botanic Gardens Conservation International. 

In recognition of the Garden’s milestone year, the 2026 Gala honored its creators Nature Sacred and Alden Stoner, Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects and Thomas Woltz, Jeffrey Longhenry (Understory), and Marvel and Scott Demel. The evening also included a conversation with Dr. Eric W. Sanderson, VP of Urban Conservation at the New York Botanical Garden and author of Mannahatta.
