Support BGI and the Greenway

BGI is working harder than ever to expand vital open space in NYC by working towards the completion of the 26-mile Greenway and advocating for a fully connected, 400-mile NYC greenway network.

BGI’s Naval Cemetery Landscape is open to the public 5 days a week so more people can enjoy summer and fall flowers.

Join us to support the expansion of greenways and access to nature in NYC!

Adopt A Native Plant or Tree along the Greenway!

Your donations to BGI support stewardship of the Greenway and the Naval Cemetery Landscape — consider donating a plant or tree at the NCL on behalf or in honor of a loved one. Your gift will support NYC’s ecology and vital bees, birds, and butterflies! All adopted items will receive a digital certificate of recognition*:

$25 — Eastern Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) supports Eastern carpenter bees and brown-belted bumblebees throughout the year.

$50 — Bee Balm (Monarda fistulosa) supports long tongued bees, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds.

$100 — Golden Alexander (Zizia aurea) is a host plant for the Black Swallowtail butterfly.

$250 — Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa) supports butterflies and hummingbirds by providing nectar, and goldfinches and orioles by providing nesting material.

$500 — Redbud Tree (Cercis canadensis) supports butterflies and hummingbirds by providing nectar, and chickadees and goldfinches by providing seeds.

$1,000 — New Street Tree adjacent to the Greenway.

$2,500 — Plaza planter on the Greenway on Atlantic Avenue or Imlay Street — with digital certificate.

$3,500 — Plaza planter on the Greenway on Atlantic Avenue or Imlay Street — with physical recognition signage.

*Certificates will be sent digitally; we are unable to offer plaques or physical recognition on any items except Plaza Planters.
