Support the Greenway and safe open space in Brooklyn
2020 was the Greenway’s busiest year to date as tens of thousands of people turned to Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway as a vital open space for safe transportation, exercise and fresh air, and to connect with family and friends in a socially-distant way.
BGI is working harder than ever to realize the full vision of the 26-mile Greenway when New Yorkers need it more than ever. But we need your help to realize this vision.
With your support, 2021 will be a big year for BGI:
• We’ll continue our foundational work with the City to complete the 26-mile Waterfront Greenway and create more open space in our borough
Join us to support the completion of the Greenway and the vision of a greener, stronger, healthier Brooklyn.
Support nature in NYC by adopting a plant or tree
Your donations to BGI support stewardship of the Greenway and the Naval Cemetery Landscape — consider donating a plant or tree at the NCL on behalf or in honor of a loved one. Your gift will support NYC’s ecology and vital bees, birds, and butterflies! All adopted items will receive a digital certificate of recognition*:
$50 — Anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) supports honeybees and bumblebees throughout the year.
$100 — Common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) supports Monarch butterflies and caterpillars in the summer and fall.
$250 — New England aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae) supports native birds like warblers, chickadees, and goldfinches.
$500 — Black Cherry tree in the NCL Sacred Grove.
$1,000 — New Street Tree adjacent to the Greenway and the entrance to Naval Cemetery Landscape.
$2,500 — Plaza planter on the Greenway on Atlantic Avenue or Imlay Street.
*Certificates will be sent digitally; we are unable to offer plaques or physical recognition at the site.
