Greenpoint Tree Planting

BGI is planting over 40 street trees in Greenpoint, Brooklyn!

Brooklyn Greenway Initiative is excited to announce a new street tree planting project along the West Street corridor in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. This project was made possible with generous support from City Parks Foundation and its Newtown Creek Environmental Benefits Fund.

In partnership with the Tree Trust, BGI is planting more than forty street trees along the West Street segment of the Brooklyn Greenway, as well as along connecting side streets. BGI was also able to work with the NYC Parks Department to incorporate street tree requests from locals into this project in order to meet specific demands for greening from the Greenpoint community. All of the trees will be planted and tree guards will be installed by the end of Spring 2021, with community tree stewardship and engagement events facilitated over the course of the upcoming two years.
