COVID-19 Updates

Continue to check this page for the latest updates related to BGI operations and program changes due to the Coronavirus outbreak in New York City. Please also follow @BKGreenway and @NavalCemeteryLandscape on social media channels for updates and other related content.

The Greenway remains open as a critical facility for people who need to commute to work and get out for fresh air and exercise.

The Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway is an essential avenue for people of all ages and abilities utilizing multiple modes of alternative transportation. During this public health crisis, the Greenway will remain open to provide safe and accessible infrastructure for commuting and recreational purposes. Please be sure to maintain a safe distance from other Greenway users and wash your hands, gear, and bike as soon as you get home.

This uncertain time has introduced so many people to the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway as a new and viable option for biking, running, strolling and getting around. We expect many of these people will continue to use the Greenway, once we’re on the other side of the “curve.” BGI is committed to the full development, establishment, and long-term stewardship of the Greenway as part of NYC’s broader network of greenways, parks, and streets for all New Yorkers.

The Naval Cemetery Landscape will remain closed through April 21.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to suspend Open Hours at the Naval Cemetery Landscape for the next few weeks. While we believe deeply in the restorative power of nature – especially in times like these – we are committed to doing our part to “flatten the curve” and keep employees and visitors safe. We will continue to monitor and heed the advice of public health experts and officials, with the sincere hope that we will be able to welcome visitors back to the Naval Cemetery Landscape in some capacity during late spring florescence. We’ll continue to update this page with further details as they unfold.

The 2020 Greenway Ride is being rescheduled for the fall.

The 2020 Greenway Ride will not take place on May 31 as originally scheduled. We are working with event partners and permitting agencies to confirm a new date this fall. Thanks for your patience, and please stay tuned for more details

You can help BGI.

We know that spending time outdoors is vital for physical and mental health, during this crisis and always. The Greenway is an essential infrastructure that also provides safe passage for alternative modes of transportation. Please support our work to realize the full potential of the Greenway by making a much-needed gift to BGI. Your donations help us keep the Naval Cemetery Landscape open and continue to push for the Greenway’s timely completion.

Stay safe and stay healthy!
