Naval Cemetery Landscape & Stewardship Coordinator

Brooklyn Greenway Initiative (BGI) seeks a Coordinator for the Naval Cemetery Landscape (NCL), an award winning 1.7-acre contemplative memorial landscape and pollinator habitat at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and stewardship and greening programs along the 26-mile Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. The Coordinator’s primary focus is annual and day-to-day horticulture and operations of the NCL, including public engagement at the site,  with a secondary focus on stewardship and greening programs in distinct locations along the Greenway. As an integral member of the BGI team, the Coordinator will oversee operations, support current efforts and shape long-term strategy and resources at the NCL and along the Greenway.

Naval Cemetery Landscape Gardener

BGI seeks a part-time Gardener for the Naval Cemetery Landscape (NCL), an award winning 1.7-acre contemplative memorial park along the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The NCL Gardener position entails horticultural and visitor services responsibilities, and includes ensuring the proper use and maintenance of the space for visitors and program partners as they enjoy its meandering elevated boardwalk, “sacred bench,” tens of thousands of native plants, and dozens of species of pollinators.

Field Research Assistant (starting Fall 2022)

BGI seeks motivated folks with a commitment to excellence to collect data at key locations along the 26-mile Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. The primary role of the Field Research Assistants will be to conduct intercept surveys and record observations at select locations. Field research will take place seasonally, and hours will vary each month.

The Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway User Study will collect quantitative and qualitative data to better understand how the Greenway is currently used and the communities it serves. Working on this study can be a fascinating, rewarding experience. If you are a reliable self-starter with an interest in New York City, public spaces, urban planning, social research, and/or sustainability this position may be right for you.
