Executive Director

Brooklyn Greenway Initiative (BGI) and its Board of Directors are happy to announce our search for a new Executive Director to lead the next phase of BGI’s development. Building upon our outgoing ED’s work to develop a citywide profile, we’re looking for a visionary, strategic team member to lead the organization as we advocate for completion of the 26-mile Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway and for a five-borough greenway network.

Naval Cemetery Landscape Seasonal Gardener, Summer/Fall 2022

Brooklyn Greenway Initiative (BGI) seeks a part-time seasonal Gardener for the Naval Cemetery Landscape (NCL), an award-winning 1.7-acre contemplative memorial park along the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The NCL Gardener position entails horticultural and visitor services responsibilities, and includes ensuring the proper use and maintenance of the space for visitors and program partners as they enjoy its meandering elevated boardwalk, “sacred bench,” tens of thousands of native plants, and dozens of species of pollinators.

Field Research Assistant (starting Fall 2022)

BGI seeks motivated folks with a commitment to excellence to collect data at key locations along the 26-mile Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. The primary role of the Field Research Assistants will be to conduct intercept surveys and record observations at select locations. Field research will take place seasonally, and hours will vary each month.

The Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway User Study will collect quantitative and qualitative data to better understand how the Greenway is currently used and the communities it serves. Working on this study can be a fascinating, rewarding experience. If you are a reliable self-starter with an interest in New York City, public spaces, urban planning, social research, and/or sustainability this position may be right for you.
