Advocacy for Greenways in Brooklyn
Our core mission is to support the development, establishment and long-term stewardship of greenways throughout Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway
For over twenty years, we’ve been the catalyst to the planning and completion of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway by building popular support that resulted in NYC government’s adoption of the 2012 implementation plan. Now standing at 22 miles, the planned 29-mile protected and landscaped route for pedestrians and cyclists will connect the neighborhoods, parks, and open spaces of Brooklyn’s storied and iconic waterfront from Greenpoint to East New York.

Historic Brooklyn Greenways — Ocean and Eastern Parkways
One of the six greenway studies to expand the citywide network announced by the city government – a key aim of the NYC Greenways Coalition, which is coordinated by Brooklyn Greenway Initiative – will focus on Historic Brooklyn Greenways. The study is expected to lay the groundwork for the renewal of the Ocean Parkway Greenway – the nation’s first purpose-build bicycle path – and the Eastern Parkway Greenway, while linking the two greenways to each other and to Highland Park, and an connection to Highland Park via a two-mile extension of Eastern Parkway.
Leif Ericson Greenway
The long-disconnected 0.75-mile greenway along the northern perimeter of Bay Ridge will be renewed and connected to the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway by the city government. The project is one portion of the NYC Parks Destination: Greenways program to renew, upgrade, and extend the southwest section of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greewnay.
